I am a jack-of-all trades (master of none) artist. I enjoy writing, drawing, painting, sculpting, sewing, photography, and trying all kinds of new things.
I love to photograph my Asian Ball Jointed Dolls, so I will probably talk about them and fuss about them some times. You have been warned.Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.comBlogger27125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-3964554404002465122013-01-29T08:39:00.004-08:002013-01-29T08:53:05.092-08:00Commission Clay!So yea, my first ever commission, very exciting.

So a friend of mine from work got married October 31st, her and her now hubby are both huge horror movie aficionados (I spelled that seriously wrong the first time) and so are many of their friends so I made custom Michael Myers (from Halloween) for the Bridesmaids/Groomsmen to wear and a Slimer (Ghost Busters) and Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm St.)

I can't find all my pictures for some reason so here is everything that I have! I will ask if I can use her wedding Photo's to show off at least the MM in use on their bouquets!

Here is my cat Doodles invading my work space because any surface is made for cats....

Freddy WIP, his head on a pike so I could apply his scars and red flesh tone.

Freddy no arms! Much less frightening!

Finished Freddy. This picture does not do him justice. He was by far my favorite even though he took about 8hrs to make start to finish. I think he turned out the best and he was surprisingly relaxing to make. He is made from Sculpy clay with wires in his claws for support (so they don't snap off), pastels on his face to add red to his skin tone and sealed with Sculpy brand glaze.

This is finished Slimer, I couldn't find and WIP pics of him. He was a little difficult to make because how do you make an oozy non corporeal ghost out of clay? Well I think I made him look pretty Oozy. He is 100% Sculpy clay with Sculpy brand glaze to seal him. He took about 4-5

Here are the MM without hair, knives, and masks, they still look creepy. One of my scouts said they look like Slendermen, I kind of agree. Short, squashy Slendermen.

Finished MM, they are also made out Sculpy with wire to support the knives and hooks on the top to attach them to the bouquets/boutineers/ect and sealed with Sculpy brand sealer. These guys took about an hour to make.

So overall I had lots of fun, she wants me to a Pyramid Head now, I have to figure out how to make him not tip over because he will be top heavy. I may have to anchor him to a stand if I can't figure it out otherwise. I think in my spare time I might make some clay people and list them on etsy or something because, well it was a lot of fun. :)

FayeFaye?So I am lazy and haven't posted here in a million years (okay ten months) and I will try to post something more often including some nifty things I have made. Today's post is a box opening for my JID Asa, who is supposed to embody my long standing character Faye, or FayeFaye by those who love her most.

When I opened her box, I didn't feel any sort of immediate connection (not the first time that has happened) and in fact felt disappointment. Part of me wanted to sell her immediately but I went back and tried clothing on her, and if I decide to keep her I will probably get her a new face-up, some tatoo's and her ears modded into elvish ears. So right now she is on a...trial of sorts. Hopefully she will stay, if not she will have to go off to a new home.
At this point I stopped taking pictures and made my sad little Facebook post. I went back later and took pictures of FayeFaye in almost ever outfit that would fit her (she hated almost everything...) But she did decide to give me commentary, I will take that as a good thing...

Midori: Should I be offended?

Here is FayeFaye, chilling in my dolly cabinet. The final outfit she chose was the skull sweater over the pink dress (to look like a skirt), the pink and black stockings and some shoes she stole from Midori (it is okay they require high heel feet which Midori does not have). She also claimed the small plushie I have saved five years for her and a can of Moutain Dew to drink (it is okay, no one else drinks it).

Faye: If you want me to stay I need hair that fits
Me: Yes M'am
Faye: And the right color eyes, my eyes are blue
Me: Yes M'am
Faye: And you never told me where Icelore is...
Me: Look at the time, got to go!

And call AT&T about my phone.

On the bright side the Hunger Games Movie comes out this month, Suzzane Collins has given it her thumbs up, she says it gives a wider look on the games, more then the books could show, but still keeps true to the essence of the book, so... I am excited!

Also, this blog Holly and Polish that I discovered via Dark Heart Design. This lovely blogger lady is giving away the awesome new Hunger Games nail polish collection. Ironic because Katniss doesn't care for such things but I like my nails looking pretty when I kick butt so... I want it! It has some really great and creative ideas that would work for other things as well but they make GREAT little tiny ATC projects. Seriously some BOSS ATC's. After watched a very potter musical, I seem prone to be using the word 'boss'.

There is another book that I want Surface Treatment Workshop that has some AWESOME mixed media texniques in it. I am currently using my B&N gift card and free shipping for members to buy it as we speak.

Only down side? I don't have the money to go buy all of the supplies I need to try these awesome techniques. I am seriously thinking craft store gift cards for my birthday. Seriously.

On the bright side besides my books I will be oogling, I finished my brain I was making for my best friend Jessie. It looks awesome, she loves it, and I think I will let the picture speak for itself.

See? Awesome.

I think I am going to make up a few projects I owe people and maybe do some simple cross-stitch.

I think depression is inhibiting me to the point I can't stand it anymore, I just want to stand up and scream, so I will be going back to the doctors very soon. I miss feeling enthused about everything I enjoy doing which is a lot.

Oh, and I am totally getting this book to Mini Cross-StitchValeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-71953934701811852492012-01-22T19:16:00.000-08:002012-01-22T19:16:14.274-08:00An experiment in control and perservernceOkay, so me and my girlfriend have a comic together. Sort of. When we met in high school we meshed our ideas together to create one big story world that turned into stories, role plays and comics. It started as an accident, and other people got involved, friends had characters in there to. We had notebooks filled with letters and stories although I regretfully threw them away (so what if many were illegible, who cares).

Oh and in high school, they were filled with cliches, Mary Sues and Gary Stu's and many other cringe worthy story crimes, but it was our story. We decided to make it a comic. It went through many attempts and incarnations, I think five or six. Over the years the story grew and changed, characters were added, many were trimmed (and good riddens) and all of the characters 'donated' by friends were almost all removed.

Every time we would start the comic it would be great. Excitement, joy, and teamwork. Untill it ended up being a story she wrote, and I edited, I felt like I was having to compromise the essence of my characters, she felt pressured and stressed. We always did things relatively the same way and I wanted to try a different approach, she never did.

Now she has apparently discovered the joy of what I have been saying all along, and wants to try planning my way, which means we both work together and build a story brick by brick. I lay one, she lays one. Sounds good? That means planning seesions, sketches, character bio's, story boarding, and yes, plotting! Ah that is the writers word for planning, my best friend and worst enemy, but I shall embrace you and we shall make sweet comic babies!

Right? I hope so because over the years this story meant a lot to a lot of people, but it meant a lot to me especially, and after crushing disappointment time and time again (I was never the first to call it quits or stop production ) I hope people can see why I was very, very hesitant to proceed this time. But everything looked good, clear sky, calm water. But no matter how much I want it and no matter how much I cry (and there would be crying) if this does not work, I will not, no matter what, try again.

I am all for trying again and again and again and again, but I cannot work with someone who is not being honest with what they want and what they are doing, with someone who constantly wants to quit or throw away good work because it's not 'good enough' or someone who won't work with me instead of against me. I may not be easy to work with all the times, but I am rarely the first one to try to throw in the towel, I am stubborn and will keep going to prove I can.

We have the story. We have the talent (she's the artist, we are both writers). But do we have the perserverence to make it work? Do we have the control to balance our ideas and make the story come to life?

I'll let you know, and hope the answer is yes.

((Note: I originally titled this 'An experiment in Control and Art, but then I saw this is what I was really talking about'))Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-30895868527127341852012-01-15T18:50:00.000-08:002012-01-15T18:52:43.115-08:00Lazy Blogger is Lazy...It is true. So very, very true. I haven't been up to much, work, playing Harry Potter Lego's on the Wii, and Girl Scout stuff. I haven't made a lot of art, just a few Christmas presents, one of which the pictures mysteriously vanished of, when I find them, I will upload them. I also have a few things to make up, which I plan to do this month.

I am currently working on a really tough cross-stitch for my best friends birthday. It is a super pain in the butt but I know she will love it and appreciate it. I will upload pics when I am done.

This month my girl friend promised that we would make time do something we haven't done in a while, photograph the dollies, I am super excited! Yea, they want to come out and be FREE!
Okay, goodnight!
*Edit* Oh yea, working on a semi-top secret project with my partner in crime. Oh yea!Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-71043996914216366852011-10-18T08:38:00.000-07:002011-10-18T08:38:19.258-07:00The Hunger Games Swaps: Panem InfoI am making this post to compile all of the information I have gathered about Panem to help the members of my Hunger Game Swaps on Swap Bot. Feel free to use it for whatever you want. I took as much as possible directly from the books and official sources, as far as I know everything stated below is confirmed, unless otherwise noted.

I know I missed a few people from the districts, particularly people mentioned in Catching Fire and Mockingjay. If you know someone I missed, please let me know. Also, if you see something incorrect or missing, let me know. I am trying to keep up with information, and I know some knew stuff is being released with thecapitol.pn but I am not perfect, and want this to be as accurate as possible.

NOTE: Information I am covering goes across The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. If you have not read all three books and do not want spoilers, then you may want to look elsewhere.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
History of Panem: Panem was formed at an undetermined time in the future out of the remains of North America after war and disaster destroyed it's countries but altered it's landscape. Panem originally consisted of the Capitol, surrounded by 13 Districts. Seventy-four years before the start of 'The Hunger Games' was the end of a period known as the 'Dark Days' where many of the districts rebelled against the capitol. The rebellion was ended when District 13 was 'destroyed'. In Catching Fire this was found out to be a lie based on an agreement that District 13 would not blow up the capitol in exchange for pretending to be destroyed.
I don't know if any specifics were giving for the rebellion, but If Panem 74 years ago is anything like Panem today, it is probably due to poor treatment and severe segregation of it's citizens. It is also mentioned many times that people feel war may reduce their numbers too greatly, so presumably the population of Panem is far less then current North America (current population is approximately 528,720,588 million).
As punishment for the rebellion, every year each district must send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12-18 to fight to the death until one remains, while the whole country watches.
As far as I know, no official map of Panem has ever been given. Many people have speculated based on details given in the books. This map was made by a teacher who teaches these books to her kids, and she has pretty sound reasoning for each placement of districts, but again, this is NOT official. Just an educated guess.
Capitol: The capitol is the center of Panem. ONLY the capitol has contact with all districts as the districts have very minimal contact with each other and knowledge about each districts is vague. All of the wealthy live in the capitol, although it is revealed that many people are deep in debt, most likely due to their 'never wanting' life style. Many people in the capitol are ignorant of the goings on in the rest of Panem. They do not understand the starvation and suffering. To them the Hunger Games in entertainment (no on from the capitol must participate) and they watch with furver, bet on the games, and many spend absorbent amounts on their favorite tributes.
What we know about the capitols location is there is mountains protecting it from most or all of the districts (part of the reason the districts lost the first rebellion) and the capitol itself is fairly square. The capitol is completely dependent on the districts for everything, they do not produce any of their own food or energy.
District 1: District One is known as a 'career' district in the games, as tributes often train for years to compete in the games and will gladly volunteer to take another tributes place. The tributes from the three 'career' districts are often volunteers and make up most of the winners.
District One makes luxury items for the capitol, although I don't think it is ever expanded on what that means exactly.
Notable Persons: Glimmer and Marvel (Tributes from the 74th games)
District 2: District Two is known as a 'career' district in the games, as tributes often train for years to compete in the games and will gladly volunteer to take another tributes place. The tributes from the three 'career' districts are often volunteers and make up most of the winners. District Two is considered to have the closest relationship with the Capitol and was the last to join the rebellion.
Officially District two is known for stone quarries and masonry work, but unofficially they are the center of defense for the capitol (formerly the job of District 13) and supplies and trains Peace Keepers.
Notable Persons: Cato and Clove (74th games), Enobria (returning tribute for 75th games)
District 3: There is not much known about district three other then it's industry and a few small tidbits. District three is known for electronics. This is thought to include a variety of devices, everything from mines to holo projectors to everyday things like sewing machines. It is my theory that in order to do more complicated work, people in District Three are better educated, because when Beetee is explaining things, no else seems to understand, even though it seemed easy to me.
Notable Persons: Beetee and Wiress
District 4: District four is known as a 'career' district in the games, as tributes often train for years to compete in the games and will gladly volunteer to take another tributes place. The tributes from the three 'career' districts are often volunteers and make up most of the winners.
District four is known for fishing and providing seafood, so there for it must be on the coast somewhere. Most people outside of District four, cannot swim, at least not well.
Notable Persons: Finnick and Annie
District 5: Next to nothing is known about District 5. Only recently it was confirmed that it's industry is power, but it is uncertain what kind of power. If one district produces power for the whole country, my thoughts are that it is fairly small.
Notable Persons: Foxface (74th Games)
District 6: Next to nothing is known about District six, although it was recently confirmed it's industry is transportation. Presumably it is in charge of manufacturing and maintaining cars, hovercrafts, and trains.
District 7: District seven is known for lumber and paper goods. It is thought to be located either up north or Down south/south west where dense forests are located.
Notable Persons: Johanna Mason
District 8: District eight is known for producing textiles and manufacturing clothing, or at least peacekeeper uniforms. Most people work in the factories, it is even revealed in Catching Fire that students (and teachers) go to work in factories after school.
Notable Persons: Bonnie and Twill (Refuges passing through the wilderness by District 12 in Catching Fire)
District 9: Very little is known about District Nine until recently when it was revealed that District Nine's industry is grain. It is believed most people work in factories that involve processing and refining grains for various uses (food, oil, fuel, textile).
District 10: It is revealed in (I believe) Mockingjay by a refugee from District 10 that it's industry is livestock. The person in question was in charge of impregnating cattle with frozen embryo's to keep genetic diversity. Presumably this district is in charge with the care, breeding, and possible slaughter and processing of livestock and their products (ie: eggs, milk, ect).
District 11: District Eleven in confirmed by Katniss in Catching Fire to be one of the largest districts. District Eleven is in charge of a large amount of food growing and production. During harvest season EVERYONE works, sometimes until after dark. It is also most likely towards the south or west because it was warm even thought it was winter. District eleven has the most information after twelve and thirteen. Much of the district including the majority of people and the district center are in disrepair. Most people live in shacks/poverty. The border is described as having a massive fence, constantly electrified with Barbed wire coils on top and guard posts along the fence. They are swift to punish, the use of corporol or even deadly punishment, even on children is not uncommon.
District 12: District twelve is where are main character, Katniss is from so we know a good bit. District twelve is sort of the 'forgotten' district. No on really pays it much attention and it does not get a lot of supervision. District twelve is responsibl for coal mining, and unlike many other districts, the citizens do not start work until they are 18. It is believed District twelve is somewhere in the region of the Appalachian in the Virginia/West Virginia/Kentucky region Most of District twelve lives in poverty.
Starvation and disease related to malnutrition are not uncommon. People receive no regular health care as they can not afford it and must rely on home remedies and Katniss' mother (an apothecary's daughter). There is a black market called the Hob where people may sell, buy, and trade illegal goods including the illegally hunted meat that Katniss and Gale catch.
Punishment for lapses in the law are fairly lax as many of the Peacekeepers will buy things that they know to be illegal goods and some are even friendly. Corporal punishment is rare untill a new head peacekeeper is brought in during Catching Fire. District twelve is one of the smaller districts with only about 8000 people. After the bombing in Catching Fire, only 800-900 people survive and make it as refugees to District thirteen.
District 13: Everyone in Panem accept a select few believe district thirteen was destroyed seventy-four years before 'Catching Fire'. However, there was a MASSIVE underground network of bunkers where a fairly decent population survived and continued to build a life and live. District thirteen becomes the center of the rebellion against the capitol. It harbors the displaced residents of District twelve and anyone else who shows up.
Things in District thirteen are VERY strict. Food and supplies and kept under strict control and you use ONLY what you need and nothing more. There is no waste. All of the districts people are well cared for and educated, but are severely lacking in fun and entertainment. At the age of 14, everyone is inducted into the military and refereed to as 'soldier' and are trained in combat.
The population of District thirteen has fluctuated over the years. In recent times, there was some sort of pox epidemic which killed many people and made others sterile so they NEED the District twelve people to help maintain a good population.
First off, I am SUPER excited about NaNoWriMo coming up. I have had a general story idea picked put for months and can't wait to get started on it. I just need to pick a gender for my character. o0 I am going back to fantasy this year, after doing horror for two years in a row, but I have come to love horror, so maybe I will sneak a little in!
If anyone else is into NaNoWriMo feel free to friend me AngelicLizard. If you don't know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month aka November where the goal is to write 50k+ words in 30 days. This is my 4th year participating, last year was my first year winning. This year I want to beat my previous word count AND finish my novel. Last year I kept stalling when it came to getting the plot going, I am going to try not to do that this year. :)
And on to a little art :)
Today we have 1 dozen inchies for the 1 Dozen Inchies- October Swap.
Next, we has to share a spooky story, and I made mine into a little book and drew a picture of the sisters in the back. I will post this story sometime this month, I want to edit it first.
Well I told you it would be a short update. Enjoy.Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-81861549569773146302011-10-07T21:18:00.000-07:002011-10-07T21:18:07.659-07:00Book Review Friday #1: The Hunger Games (and other stuff)*NOTE* If you are here because you are looking for me talking about the Hunger Games, please scroll down. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

First, I have about a weeks worth of blogs with art to 'catch-up' with what I've done, and then I will try to post art 1-2 a week. I want to expand my blog to include other things, but it will still involve a lot of art/writing/photography because I love it a lot. But, ideally I want to post art/swaps 1-2 a week, and book reviews on Friday. I don't know if I am going to try doing anything else. I will talk about any interesting places I go to, but they are almost guaranteed to be accompanied by photo's.

Speaking of photo's I am working towards getting a body for my floating head, and I have decided that my next investment will be a camera. A nice camera. A DSLR. My point-and-shoot is no longer cutting it for what I want from many pictures, although it will be a go-to for carrying around everywhere. Right now my contenders are a Canon Rebel and a Fujifilm (can't remember the model). I have been wanted a Rebel for a while now, I have read reviews and honestly never found many negatives towards (at least none that would matter to me). However, I LOVE my Fujifilm point and shoot, I think it is an awesome camera, and I went for a Rebel because at the time I first started considering DSLR's fujifilm didn't have anything comparable, but I missed something and now they do. I read a review online and it seemed very positive, but I have a lot of time and will do much more research.

I am considering starting a Girl Scout blog/website because I think I have a lot of good ideas to share. My only thing is, I want to wait until I get the new, back-ordered badge book because they are re-doing the program. I got to see it last night and thought that it looked awesome, but I will see more when I actually own it.

Okay, that is all the rambling I have for now, I shall proceed to the bookness!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So since I have an opinion on everything, I thought I would share more with the world wide web with doing some reviews and since I am a big huge nerdy nerd for books I will start with them. I applied for two sites that give you free books in exchange for reviews, which I thought would be nice for when I can't afford to have new books and want something to read.
The Series take place an unknown time in the future. The world was ravaged by war, tragedy, and natural disasters and out of the ashes of North America, Panem was born. Panem is a country divided into a capitol and twelve districts. There were thirteen districts but District Thirteen was destroyed seventy-four years ago during the 'Dark Days' when a rebellion took place. As punishment for that rebellion, every year each district must provide one boy and one girl between the ages of 12-18 to be sent to an arena where they will be followed by camera's every move they make while they fight to the death until one victor remains.
The story follows Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen year old girl from District Twelve. She has taken over the duties of providing for her mother and twelve year old sister Prim after the death of her father in a mining accident five years ago. She is a strong independent girl who uses the skills her father taught her to illegally hunt and gather food outside of her district boundaries in the 'forbidden wilderness'. Her shock comes when her younger sister is chosen by random at the annual 'reaping' for the Hunger Games. She immediately volunteers to take her place, although she considers it a death sentence. Her fellow tribute is Peeta Melark, a sixteen year old son of a baker who saved Katniss' life five years ago when she was starving by intentionally burning bread and giving it to her.
They are both whisked off to the capitol where before they fight to the death they are dressed up and presented as a team to the eager capital audience. Katniss is opposed to the idea of them being presented like a team, because as tradition dictates, only one can survive. Dressed up by her stylist Cinna, Katniss is an immediate favorite, and becomes immediately known as 'The Girl on Fire' due to the real-looking flames on her outfit. Before the games, her fellow tribute Peeta reveals on a national interview that he is in love with Katniss. She is in disbelief and believes it to only be a ruse to protect himself.
In the arena Katniss must use every skill she has to try to outwit her enemies as she struggles with the terrible acts she must commit, her humanity, her feelings for the games and the other players, particularly Peeta. Eventually it comes down to Katniss and Peeta, and through an act of defiance and an attempted double suicide, they are both declared victors, but the capitol, is not happy and a dark future awaits.
_________________________________________________________________________
Review:
Suzanne Collins immediately pulls me into the world of district twelve. I instantly want to know more and more about it, and the fact that many of my questions are left unanswered at the end, makes me want more. I think Suzanne Collins writes in a way that is easy to understand and appeals to a wide audience (the books are rated for ages 12 and up, I am 24 and not the oldest reader by far).
.The book does feature a lot of graphic violence. The majority of the story is spent in an arena where 12-18 year olds are trying to kill each other. But Collins does a great job of narrating in a believable, raw way. There is no glorification of violence, Katniss takes no satisfaction in killing the others, even though they are trying to kill her. That is the second thing I enjoy about the book. The characters are believable. Katniss is strong, skilled, but she is a teenager, she is confused about many things and struggles with her decisions and morality. Killing or not killing is not easy for her.
Collins even challenges the reader to question the authenticity of her characters through the narration. While Katniss is being groomed for presentation before the games, she wonders about her prep team. All they seem to worry about is frivolous nonsense, but Katniss wonders at times what she would be like if raised in the capital. This gives the reader the prompt to question those and other characters. I have to give any author kudos for that, because the characters really do make the book, and the characters here are strong.
Prim is an instant like for me, as was Rue, and then comparing the two, I absolutely melted when Rue died. I cried. I was singing the song as I read to myself, and my voice broke, I felt as If I was there, holding her tiny hand as her skin went cold.
I really can't find much to complain about about the book, and I could talk about philosophy of them all day. The absolute perversion of the games is frightening. First the contestants are children. 12-18 year old children, made to fight for the death. Second, they are dressed up and paraded around before the world they are sent to slaughter. Third, people place bets on the outcome and it is honestly viewed as good entertainment for the people in the capitol. Fourth, I find none of this to be unrealistic. The way the world is heading with reality TV, child soldiers, and video-taping fights instead of helping people. I could see this as a reality, and that is part of what chills me the most.
Ok, one complaint. The ending left me wanting more and my library had NO copies of Catching Fire. Every. Single. Copy in my ENTIRE county library was checked out and many of them were on hold. Not fair. But honestly, if you are a fan of YA or distopian fiction, I would recommend it. :)
Tomorrow morning/afternoon will be my 'down-time'. I will be doing laundry, finishing my last train story, working on clay projects, and planning things for scouts. We have a Harry Potter Encampment for scouts on October 21st-23rd. Me and my co-leader volunteered to help run sessions. I will be teaching tea leaves, she will be teaching about werewolves, and we are both teaching Quidditch. I have never helped with a community event that wasn't planned by my family, but it will be okay. We are also going to be in costume. She is dressing as Lupin, I will be Trelawny. Woot! :)
I will be making a costume, and I will share some of the stuff I come up with in case anyone is interested in stuff for kids :)
So, here for my 'catch-up' series is a 'Zombie Fashion Magazine' I made for a fashion photo shoot swap. I think it turned out really cute, enjoy.
I've read at least 23 books (not counting the series I read twice, twice). So I think starting on Friday I will talk about some of the books I've read. Maybe that will be a Friday thing, talking about books. Whoo hoo! Right now I am reading 'Slumdog Millionaire', I will probably finish that today and then will move on to 'A long way gone.' Yea book worm! *wiggles*
In my Halloween Spooktacular group I won the September WTA 'Skully September' which means everyone who signed up has to send me something skully. Yea!
Today should be another easy day at work, and it's nice outside, so yea! Thursday is going to be a long day though. I work 7-4 and have a community meeting for scouts 7-9 and in between I have to go to the post office and find dinner. Fun fun fun. I probably won't have an update Thursday unless I get up early enough.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today's crafts are two sets of Halloween Inchies and One Halloween Matchbox.

Inchies #1

I like the spider web and the pumpkin the best. I think they look nifty. I don't know if people have a problem with it but I draw most of my inchies rather then use paper and die cuts and stamps. I don't have a lot of those, I am new to paper craft. It is basically a bunch of pretty paper I inherited and that's it. I can also sew inchies, but honestly they take 20-60 minutes depending on how detailed I make them and I reserve to only do them for myself or people who I really like and I know will send me something really nice in return.

Inchies #2

Teeny Tiny cat on a wall. Super cute :)

Halloween Matchbox

First, I apologize for the grainy photo's. These are part of the batch I used my ipod to photograph. Second, this is my first matchbox. It's simple but I like it (shiny spiders). If you can't tell, the green paper has a silver spider web on it. :)Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-73564995314665605852011-10-04T06:57:00.000-07:002011-10-04T06:58:58.636-07:00More Spooky Catch-Up: Spooky Books!

So here I am for another post of art-catch. Unfortunately today I really can't think of anything else to talk about except it's freaking cold in here and I am wearing two layers and can't get warm!!! Ah!!!! And I have to take the bus and will be in a box outside working today. Prospects for warming up today, are not looking good. On to Spooky Books!!

So I made three Spooky books for the Tiny Halloween Swap, 13 Days of Halloween Swap, and candyLESS Altered Box Swap. The first one I have pictures of the inside covers and outside covers, the second two, one has a plain inside cover, the other I never took a picture of for some reason... :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Book #1
Have I told you how much I LOVE spider webs. Drawing them, watching them. There is a spider out back. I TRIED to take pictures of it's GORGEOUS and massive web but all I had for a background was off-white siding and a cloudy sky. It was barely visible to my eyes, and my camera couldn't catch a bit of it :/
Book #2
Book #3
Okey dokey! There are all my spooky books. I have to remember to make my girlfriend one. I might make one for my friend at work too, to go with her charms. :)
Now I need to go kindly e-mail/message people in my swaps that haven't sent yet.Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-71285015639123676972011-10-02T19:17:00.000-07:002011-10-02T19:17:21.769-07:00Playing Catch-Up: Spooky Creature InchiesSo... I have been super crafty this week. I finished a Halloween scene in a 250 count matchbox, at least 3 ATC's, two inchies, and two new pages in my art journal. Plus I made some new ghosts, I haven't baked them yet so I don't know how translucent they turned out. BUT I am still catching up, so you will have to wait to see any of that. I want to get everything up ASAP so I will probably be doing many posts a week, because in November, I will be powering down on craftiness and amping up on the writing for NaNoWriMo.
Right now I have most swaps done and ready to hang out. I have five and half to do, but many are done and ready to go when partners are assigned (loving senders choice). Once I get all/most of my Halloween swaps in, I will post pics of what I've received. Some really awesome ATC's and inchies so far and a nifty as hell wall hanging.
I am also swapping art outside of swap-bot. A girl I work with (HUGE horror fan, especially Michael Myers) is going to make me a custom pony in exchange for three chibi's for necklaces. Yea!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Right now my to-do list is as followed:

Finish Art Journal (9-13 pages to go)
Take Photo's for Autumn Challenge 2011
Hunger Games District ATC's 1-3
Zodiac Inchies: Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn
*Make 3 charms for Amber
*Finish Last Train Story

And planned projects:
Art Wall
ATC and Inchie Displays
Panem Art Map
Katniss Wedding/Mocking Jay Dresses (Doll Sized)
Halloween/Cosplay Costume

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spooky Inchie Time! I think I lost my camera and took pictures in low light with my ipod so sorry they are a little fuzzy.
Spiders and a cat sillouette. Classic 'spooky' creatures.
Bat and Raven, and a shot of the backing I put all the inchies on. I love the raven. :)
Werewolf silhouette and more bats. Yea Bats!
Zombie chick and spider web. I think this spider web looks awesome. But I'm biased.
Witch and Skeleton. I like drawing skeletons even though they take forever. :)
Well that is my update for today. If things go as planned I will make at least two more entries this week, but I am going to aim for one a day Monday-Friday. Lets see if I can stick to it. Might leave out Thursday because of my hours that day. We'll see.Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-49278993140734041912011-09-27T08:45:00.000-07:002011-09-27T08:45:21.000-07:00Catching Up: Harry Potter ATC'sSo, Im not going to lie, I am a big Harry Potter nerd, I have loved the books since before they were HUGE and I like all the movies. I saw #8 at the midnight premiere, in 3D. I had to go a few towns over to get tickets, but I didn't care, it was awesome.
So.... I happened to find a Harry Potter ATC swap and I jumped on it. It was simple, make an ATC for each house and one for Hogwarts. I decided to use the house colors as a backdrop and feature each house's mascot. Simple but classy. For the Hogwarts ATC I used all the house colors and an object representing each house, and a quote from book seven that I like.
First up is....
Griffyndor! I think my lion looks kinda sleepy, but I think it turned out pretty decent, although my girlfriend pointed out that he has no ears, but the picture I was referencing, the lion was SOOO fluffy I couldn't see his ears.
I really like this one, I think the background looks awesome, and the badger is super cute. His body is a little too long, but, he is still super cute.
Ravenclaw: I like the colors, although it is hard to see it in this picture. I am not sure how I feel about this eagle, it's fierce but oddly chicken like. I think... o0
Slytherine! I really like this one too, I like the background, I think it looks awesome, and I really like the snake too. I made it not look fierce on purpose, 'cause you know not all Slytherine's are bad.
Here is my Hogwarts ATC, I think it's pretty cool. I like the different patterns I used. :)
So there are my Hogwarts ATC's, for all you Harry Potter nerds (and not) enjoy!Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-66545088955684437242011-09-24T19:17:00.000-07:002011-09-24T19:17:33.134-07:00Bad Blogger, Bad! Recent Projects Part 1: ScuplySo.... I am a bad blogger, I haven't updated anything in FOREVER. Okay, about five months, but it feels like forever. I am going to try to get caught up with posting my recent art projects, I won't even try to put it all on here at once, that would be CRAZY but I will do things in batches. There will be a LOT of Halloween stuff, since it's my favorite Holiday. But I will try to disperse other stuff in between bunches of Halloween stuff. :)
So I made some Sculpy stuff over the last few months. Most of it is spooky or Halloween related, but not all. :) Most of it was divided up between three swaps and a WTA on swap bot (Tiny Halloween, 13 Days of Halloween, and candyLESS Altered Box Halloween Swap and the Winner Take All). Except the dragon and short squashy pumpkin.
Sleeping Fire Dragon. I think he turned out super cute. Sleepy little dragon. :)
So that is all my sculpy stuff for the last five months, although most of it happened in the last month. Enjoy. I'll probably do another update on Monday. Maybe tommorrow ;-)Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-73806057602879035142011-04-07T18:52:00.000-07:002011-04-07T18:52:48.179-07:00Swap Bot Sharing!Today is going to be a short post (text wise) but with lots of pictures! So I finally took pictures of some of the awesome things I have gotten through swap bot! It isn't everything, there is still a whole stash of inchies and a few ATC's I have misplaced but I'll make another post of them when I gather them all up! But for now, here are some of my awesome stash from swapbot!
First up I have a bunch of cards and postcards, some homemade, some not, all sent with love!
Next we have inchies! Beautiful glorious inchies! All but the 2nd nd 3rd pictures are from a one dozen monthly inchie swap, the 2nd and 3rd ones are from a private swap, with the person who does monthly inchie swaps.
Whoo hoo! Everyone loves ATC's! These are from the green ATC and the ATC challenge where you had to make an ATC that taught something!
This one was a moon poem swap but my sender included a nifty little charm to go with it.
And finally, as a 'big fat stuffed envelope' swap I got a TON of little crafting supplies. Paper, fabric, ribbon, beans, and buttons, all kinds of stuff. This is MOST of it, and you can't really see it all, but yea! Lots of cool inchies, ATC's, and matchboxes.
I don't mention anything that spooky, but I will not be held responsible if you click the link and spook yourself.
So my good friend Aaron, like me is a writer (he was one of my NaNoWriMo buddies and will be doing Script Frenzy as well). During NaNoWriMo, he wrote several short stories and I have had the pleasure of reading two of them. The first was a short story called Liver, it was fairly short, and reminded me of something that would be told around a campfire (maybe because I like campfire stories).
The second was a good bit longer, he gave it to me about two weeks ago. It was called 'Runner in the Woods'. This story although it doesn't outright say it, is a Slender Man story. If you don't know about slender man (maybe you don't like creepy stuff or have been living under a rock) it is an urban legend/mythos about a very tall, very very slender man who seems to be wearing some sort of suit, and has very long appendages (sometimes more then one is suppose to have). I won't tell you much more since it is part of the story that the more you know the more you see him but, if you are interested click the link above or Google him.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this story, and I thought it was creepy, although it creeped me out for reasons that are very specific to me (I think). For example, I use to see things in the shadows of my bedroom, I had (maybe have sometimes) very violent night terrors and I have frequent nightmare but can't remember them (I will wake up terrified and I don't know what). But pretty much the whole aspect of there always being something there, watching me, playing on my life brought me back to that and weirded me out. But I still loved the story, and plan to cover it in post-it notes before returning it.
In fact I love it enough to draw fan art.
"He Was Always There"
This picture isn't the best, I will try to to scan it when I get home. I wanted to make the picture simple, although it was more awesome in my head. I also don't think I made him tall enough, but if it looks like he blends in with the forest, well at least I did something right. I may do a few smaller pieces (ATC's) at another point in time (possibly this afternoon).
If you clicked that link and creeped yourself out, enjoy a picture of my adorable cat in the fire pit me and my family built this past weekend.
Now that you have seen my new fire pit and awwed at my kitty, I would like to share some more art I've done lately. I did a dozen inchies and two ATC's. I also made an ice dragon out of sculpy clay. I also have a few nature photos that I took this Monday.
First up is my Goth Fairy ATC. I can't find this one and am positive that it didn't get mailed so.... I'm going to have to redo it. Bummer, at least I took a picture first.
Next I have a dozen inchies for my monthly dozen inchie swap, I went with just a spring theme because spring is supposidly here (the weather hasn't been acting it though).
Weren't those lovely? The next one is an ocean themed ATC. It was free theme and I was going to draw something spring like to match my inchies but I got the ocean stuck in my head. So... here you go.
So I was invited to try clay with my sister and best friend so I decided to make an ice dragon. I think he turned out pretty cool. I think I have some work to go, but I think I could make sale quality dragons, some of my friends already want one, so yea! I named him Rawr, I won't tell you how he got his name, it was kinda a funny story. :)
Bloop Bloop. :) Okay, this first picture I took of a blossoming apricot tree two doors down from my house. I thought this photo turned out nice with the branch against the clear blue sky.
This next picture is of some sort of willow type plant (i think) near the church where I lead Girl Scouts. I thought it looked so beautiful in sort of half bloom (the whole thing wasn't in bloom yet). The pictures of the whole thing look so so but this close up looks pretty good.
I feel like I should be stealing my friend AD's blog title, 'This Blog has ADD' because I feel like the blog was one big ADD rant as it goes through all different stuff. But really, that is me, I think I am a very eclectic person who enjoys lots of stuff.Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-86137920238079396852011-03-28T18:39:00.000-07:002011-10-02T19:20:39.861-07:00Etsy Feature #2 (Review)I don't know if I said this before but I do want to do features of Etsy store owners and probably people on Deviantart as well as other artist I come across. Now if I have any features marked as 'review' that means that I have bought from them and can give you my opinion on their products in person. I like to keep things positive so unless I find someone selling copied/bootlegged art or unsafe/misleading products, ect I am going to keep my showcase of artist and shops positive. I also will feature some of my feature bloggers, both crafty bloggers and non-crafty bloggers.
If you have a blog/shop/artist (be yourself or someone else ) you are welcome to email me (dottcom6687@aol.com) please send me a link, give me your favorite piece of art/item, and why you think I should feature them.
I consider this to be a predominately art blog, and I (obviously) consider writing an art form. I may start posting reviews of books I have read, and maybe even put together lists of music that inspire me through a certain piece. If you have any feelings on this, let me know.
In case anyone cares, I plan to do Script Frenzy in April (you can find me here). But I am not totally prepared and nervous about writing in a movie format. But we shall see how that goes.... You an also expect more pictures of inchies and atc's I have been working on as well as the long promised pics of things I have received from swap-bot.
Now I think that is everything now on to my etsy feature!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I remembers around this time last year that my sister mentioned wanting a sturdy, blank book to use. Well a few months later I put out an alchemy (custom item) request on Etsy. My request was for a fairy/faerie that looked like my sister (dark curly hair, freckles, glasses) blue wings, and sitting with two hedgehogs (I posted a picture of them). About nine (I think) artist that responded, and they were all very awesome and talented. But I eventually decided to go with rachelrolseth. Rachel Rolseth was extremely pleasant, she was wonderful, nice and kept great communication the entire time, all very professional. She painted a beautiful image on a big study sketchbook and sealed it. It was all very worth everything I paid for it (although it had to be Christmas present, we pitched in for a laptop for my sisters birthday).

Here is the notebook, doesn't it look super cute?

Rachel's style of artwork I find to be very unique, she uses a lot of muted and neutral color and uses crows and ravens very frequently in many of her works. Overall I think she is a very talents artist, you should all hop over there are check her out, she also has a website here where you can see her gallery, blog, and other stuff. Now for a few of my favorite pieces she has currently available.

I will also take pictures of things that I have received so I an show them off.

I've got a least one project coming up (for a swap, it's a bit one). It's a fashion photo shoot, and it can be ANY type of fashion, and I have a few ideas rolling around so we will see how it goes. I also hope to get a table in the Artist Alley at Otakon, and if I do I will be working with my sister and best friend to do clay charms, clay food and props for dolls, and and buttons as well as solo stuff like ATC's, stickers and doll clothes, so yay.

But here is the other poem I wrote to go with my moon poem, enjoy.
I enjoy their 'smallness' and think I will start trading them, however I do enjoy the challenge of an inchie even more. Now I've made a few other ATC's but I am forgetful and easily excitable, and I forget to take pictures of them. (It wasn't many, maybe two or three...) But I thought I'd share the ones that I did photograph.

This one is for a Rocky Horror Picture Show ATC swap that I did. I gave the ATC I received to my sister (the reason I joined the swap). Not that I don't like RHPS but I think she enjoys it more. I like the time warp so that is why I picked to do that, plus Frank-N-Furters pearls/corset thing, Colombia's hat, and a little lightning. Done with pen and glitter glue on Bristol ATC paper.

This swap, we had to do something green, and the person receiving my ATC likes birds, so I decided a parrot would be great! It's modeled after a green conure, I hope that is obvious. I think he/she turned out pretty cute. Colored pencils or bristol paper.
No worries, I am not hurt or anything. I drew henna on myself and that takes about six hours to dry. I was going to go to bed, so my hand is mummified in toilet paper (what is recommended for going to bed with drying henna). But before i mummified my hand, i took some pictures, yea! Now if you aren't familiar with henna, think of it as a really long lasting (up to four weeks), intricate (and awesome) temporary tattoo.

The henna itself comes from the leaves of the Lawsonia Inermis plant, aka the Henna plant, which is actually a small tree. 'Henna' comes in three colors, but only the traditional (orangish-brown) is true henna. The leaves are ground up and turned into a powder which is then made into a paste and applied very finely. The paste has to remain on the skin for several hours in order to 'dye' it. The pictures I took are of are 'fresh' (ie: still with the paste on)' the actual henna won't be as dark (i may take pictures of it then too).

I drew this by myself, freehand, it took at least an hour. I think for my first time (the last pic is my favorite piece until i smeared it a bit). Well i hope you enjoy my first ever bit of 'body art'. :)

So maybe you didn't want your pet anymore, maybe he or she peed behind the sofa, or scratched your chair. Maybe you got a new job, got married, had a baby and didn't have time for them anymore. Maybe they just weren't as cute as they were when you got them at six or eight weeks old. Maybe they belonged to your son or daughter and they didn't take care of them enough or they went off to college and you didn't want to take care of them in their absence. Maybe you found out you, your kids, your husband, your aunt who visits all the time or your grandma who lives with you.

I don't care. I don't care why you did it. You, are an irresponsible low life. Did you think they would be okay? Did you think that someone would take them? Did you think that they are animals and could take care of myself? Maybe you felt guilty. You probably did, maybe it was for five minutes, maybe a few days, or even a few weeks or months. But eventually he or she fell out of your mind, and you forgot about them.

But guess what. They are still here, and they are not okay. I see them everyday, single day. Every time I step outside, or even go near my doors. I see them, cold, wet, alone. They come to me and cry for food, and for love. I give them what food I can, I pet their wet fur, I feel the scabs under their fur, I feel the bones under flesh. I hold them and cry as they purr with my fingers and know I cannot take them in and give them my undivided love, a home, a warm bed, all the food they can. Why I can't do this doesn't matter, the point is I cannot.

And I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to see them suffer because of your irresponsibility. I shouldn't have to feel that gut wrenching pain. I shouldn't have to be the one desperately trying to find them a home or to take them to a shelter. Because you should have done that in the first place.

Pets are living, breathing beings, and they are not disposable. They are domesticated, they don't have all the skills to care for themselves in the wild, especially if they are raised indoors. They have been breed, by people to loose some of their wild instincts, and to fit into human life style. They are breed to love people, to stay by their side and to depend on them for food, water, shelter, and affection.

So thank you people for helping contribute to the unwanted pet population, thank you for contributing to animal suffering, and thank you, for making me try to clean up your mess. I will try to catch them, take them to a vet, and maybe, just maybe I will be lucky enough to find someone to love them.

Some fun facts for you:
-There is an unknown amount of stray cats and dogs in the US, but it is estimated that there is around 70million stray cats.
-About five to seven million animals enter shelters each year, about 60% of dogs and 70% of cats are euthanized, mainly because there is no one to take them home
-The cost of spaying or neutering a pet is less expensive then caring for one puppy of kitten for a year (average litter is 4-6)Valeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05779754918571087618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8902064351239955474.post-41207315070716343422011-02-21T19:43:00.000-08:002011-03-28T18:03:43.940-07:00Kiwi's Blogger Follower Swap #4 (Etsy Feature #1)
I know the title might seem a little weird, however, it is for a swap on swap bot. :) It has been a busy weekend, and now it is snowing! I haven't had much time to make anything (I am sad because I wanted to make something for my mom, maybe a little belated present).

So since I haven't made anything the past few days, I will feature one of my favorite etsy shops! (Yea Etsy!)

The first Etsy shop, goes in the realms of one of my biggest passions, Asain Ball Jointed Dolls. The Mushroom Peddler, aka Sarah Seiter designs, sculpts, and casts her own ball jointed dolls. I have been watched Sarah on both of her Deviantart accounts for years (she is a very talented artist of many ) and she has an absolutely beautiful eye for making these dolls. The dolls featured in her shop are anthropomorphic dolls. Many of the dolls are 'monthly' (meaning they can only be bought on their particular month of the year) but they are well worth the wait. Featuring adorable, fantastically detailed animals such as a turtle, rat, and cat. The current doll is a wolf. Like most of her dolls, 'Howl' is available in White, or for an additional fee, in a custom painting colors.

These dolls are not for the casual collector, the basic price for Howl is $215.00 USD, but for someone who is willing to spend the expense on them, they a great addition to anyone's home. I really look foreword to having one of her creations in my home to join my other dolls. Even if Sarah's lovely dolls are not in your budget, check out her shop and Deviantart pages: The Mushroom Peddler for doll art and Mystic Unicorn for drawings and paintings.
